You might want to consider a Clamshell Quilt Template for a "charm" quilt, which means that every shape is a different fabric. There is a really good article on the blog that explains how to print a Clamshell Quilt Template on a 5 x 5 inch charm. It explains how I wash charms and how I print on tiny scraps of fabric with Inklingo.

Create a backing for your quilt that's about 4" larger than desired quilt size in both width and length. My throw quilt is to finish 52" x 68", so I cut a 55" wide fabric to 72" long, creating a 55" x 72" backing. Cut a batting to the same size or slightly smaller than your backing.

Because of the pinning and sewing curves, this isn't the quickest quilt to put together but, it is SO worth it. And, the 12″ goes together quicker and easier than the 8″. It is bold and fun.

Cut the fabric 1/4 inch larger than the paper template. Place the template on the wrong side of th e fabric. Baste the top curved edge, using long basting stitch. Or you can just use fabric glue instead of basting. Here I preferred basting. Press the edge over with iron. Make sure that there are no points on the curve.
